Gas generators for analytical applications

High purity gas generation in laboratories

Gas generators for laboratories produce your required gases such as nitrogen, hydrogen or zero air on site and as needed.
Our products support you in performing your analyses and experiments at the highest level.

Perfect combination:

Chromalytic is a long-standing expert in gas generators. Dürr Technik has been an expert in the field of oil-free compressors for over 40 years. The heart of a generator is the compressor - Chromalytic is the only supplier in the field of gas generators that, as part of the Dürr Technik Group, equips its gas generators with Dürr Technik's high-quality, long-lasting compressors. For you, this means proven, competent reliability and the certainty that you can rely on your gas supply.

Gas generators have decisive advantages over bottled gas and are the first choice in the laboratory when it comes to supplying high-purity gases.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ) about gas generators

A gas generator produces various gases such as nitrogen, zero air, or hydrogen directly on site. Depending on the device, the required gas type is generated either from ambient air or from deionized water – hygienically, on demand, and without the need for gas cylinders. In laboratories, gas generators are used to supply instruments such as LC-MS, GC, spectrometers, or analytical systems with reliable, high-purity gases.

Gas generators provide a continuous gas supply with consistent purity, without the need for transport or storage. They reduce operating costs, increase laboratory safety (no high-pressure cylinders), and are significantly more environmentally friendly thanks to lower CO₂ emissions. Although they require a higher initial investment, they are more cost-effective in the long term due to lower energy and maintenance costs as well as longer service life.

  • Nitrogen generators: For LC-MS, sample evaporation, and analytical applications (up to 99.9995% purity)
  • Zero air generators: Provide clean, hydrocarbon-free air for GC or other analytical instruments
  • Hydrogen generators: Used as flame or carrier gas for GC as well as for detectors and instruments

If a central compressed air supply is available, a model without a compressor is sufficient. If not, a generator with an integrated oil-free compressor is the optimal all-in-one solution.

Gas generators operate only when needed and therefore consume less energy than gas cylinder logistics. Sound insulation reduces the noise level to below 50 dB(A), allowing operation directly in the laboratory.

Installing a gas generator is simple and practical with plug-and-play: a power connection, optionally an air supply, and (for hydrogen) a water connection are all that’s required. Maintenance is minimal – usually an annual filter replacement and functional check. Service packages further extend the generator’s lifetime.

Yes, Chromalytic gas generators are compatible with all common laboratory instruments, e.g. from Agilent, Shimadzu, Sciex, Thermo Fisher, Bruker, or PerkinElmer. The systems can be delivered preconfigured.

Yes – Dürr Technik offers gas generators with a modular design and compact form for mobile applications. The generators are designed to be flexibly integrated into different laboratory environments – as a stand-alone solution for independent operation or connected to existing lab infrastructure, either under or on the benchtop. Models with an integrated compressor (e.g. the nitrogen generator HF30A) are particularly space-saving and mobile thanks to castor wheels. For larger applications, several gas generators can be operated in parallel, stacked, and combined – for example, nitrogen and zero air generators.
